Pojok Selatan #5: Rediscovering the Joy of Writing with a Fountain Pen
Today's Writing Session at Pojok Selatan #5 was a wonderful, intimate workshop where everyone had the opportunity not only to write, but also to share stories, ask questions, and learn from one another.
For many of us who grew up in Indonesia during the 2000s, writing with a fountain pen has become a long-forgotten experience. Holding one again brought back memories while introducing an entirely new way of writing. Some participants found it challenging at first, while others were surprised by how enjoyable the process became after just a few exercises.
One of today's biggest discoveries was realizing just how personal the world of fountain pens is. Every writer has different preferences. Do you enjoy a larger or slimmer pen body? A fine nib or a medium nib? A soft, flexible nib or one that feels firm and precise? There is no single "best" pen—only the one that feels right in your hand.
By trying different pens, inks, and nibs, participants began to understand not only the instruments themselves, but also their own writing style. Sometimes, finding the right pen is simply about finding one that lets your handwriting feel effortless.
Writing, after all, is a conversation between the writer and the page.
